Fishing near the Talan Island, Sea of Okhotsk

The trip to Talan Island starts in the Nagaevo Bay near Magadan.  

Magadan is a sea port on the north coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. 

 The shores of this small island are steep and rocky.  Only its northern shore is formed by a plain deposited by the sea.  This area has bank formed out of big cobbles & boulders.

 If you find a school of grey rockfish, they will be biting your fly every minute

 Spiny crab is close relative to famous king crab. This smaller crab is covered by sharp spines.  It is dwelling near rocky shores at 5-15 meters, and king crab is normally found on sand & silt, on bigger depth.  

 Saffron cod is biting any flies

 Rainbow smelt is possible to catch with small, sparsely tied streamers.  This small fish has big mouth with serious fangs.

  Greenling is found on shallow places with kelps.

 Grey rockfish often comes to the surface and could be caught with dry line and a streamer. 

Kamchatka, Avachinskaya Bay, fishing in the Pacific

Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capitol of the Peninsula, is situated at the Avachinskaya Bay.  This wide and deep bay is well protected from the storms and has a narrow gate.  On a good day you can see several volcanoes surrounding the bay and the city.  The tallest is Koryakski - 3456 meters.

Sculpins are plentiful in the ocean, but we were looking for something better

We have started to fish on the depth of 25 meters.  I was not able to use flyrod and had to fish with a spinning tackle and bait.

On smaller depth we were also catching rock greenling

..and starry flounder.  I had managed to catch one flounder with a fly in 9 meters of water.. tough.  In Russia this flounder always has its left side blind. 

I was lucky to land this greenling (no idea on the species) with a flyrod on the depth of 5 meters
